just unveiled the first vehicle to emerge from its high-performance N division. Developed in Korea and tested at the , the produces as much as 271 hp and can hit 62 mph in as little as 6.1 seconds.
Hyundai's hot hatch looks the part, too. It features aggressive bumpers with red character lines and larger intakes, a new aerodynamic rear spoiler, and black bezels for the headlamps. Inside, look for high-performance seats and blue stitching on the steering wheel to match the exterior color of the car.
Standard models come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 246 hp, but a Performance package brings the output up to 271 hp. With or without the package, the i30 N comes paired to a six-speed manual with rev matching, and it produces 260 lb-ft of torque. Five drive modes are available to adjust engine parameters, steering, and other settings: Eco, Normal, Sport, N, and N Custom. Launch control will come in handy on the track, as will the onboard lap timer.
Models with the Performance package also receive 19-inch Pirelli P-Zero high-performance Hyundai N tires, red N brake calipers, larger disc brakes, an electronic limited-slip differential, and a variable exhaust system that allows drivers to adjust the size of the valve opening and create different exhaust sounds. An electronic sound generator amps up the engine sound.
Compared to the regular five-door, the i30 N is 4mm lower when equipped with 18-inch wheels and 8mm lower with 19-inch wheels. Like other models, the i30 N dons Hyundai's signature Cascading grille, but special "N" badging helps the front face stand out.
The Hyundai i30 N will make its way to European markets by the end of 2017. Unfortunately, the hot hatch falls under the category of "Forbidden Fruit" here in the U.S. For now, we have the standard Elantra GT, and in 2018 , the U.S. .
