's recently churned out higher-performance variants of the and , and now it's the grand tourer's turn. The AMR debuted today with improved handling and 630 hp on tap.
In Germany, ahead of the Nürburgring 24-hour race, Aston Martin unveiled the latest addition to its new AMR lineup, which will also serve as the flagship for the DB11 range. Though it's a new variant, the DB11 AMR replaces the and slots above the model with the . The AMR packs the same twin-turbo 5.2-liter V-12 as the old model, but boasts an additional 30 hp. Torque remains the same at 516 lb-ft. With its newfound power, the range-topping DB11 is estimated by Aston to hit 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, which is likely conservative given a needed just 3.8 seconds to hit that speed. The DB11 AMR has a top speed of 208 mph.
Besides the retuned engine, the DB11 AMR also has a chassis that was reworked by chief engineer Matt Becker and Aston's dynamics team. The automaker says the car offers a greater connection to the road without sacrificing ride comfort. The eight-speed automatic transmission has also been revised with new shift calibration, and the exhaust has been retuned to deliver a "more vocal" note when in Sport mode.
Outside, the DB11 AMR features carbon-fiber and gloss black accents, along with darkened headlights and taillights. Exterior touches can be further personalized through three Designer Specifications. A limited-edition model will get a Stirling Green and lime treatment, AMR's signature color scheme. Meanwhile, the cabin features monotone leather and Alcantara upholstery with contrasting lime stripes on the seats, with a sport leather steering wheel coming standard. The limited-edition model is further enhanced with Dark Knight and lime accents, Satin Dark Chrome switchgear, and Satin Carbon-Fiber trim. That model will be limited to just 100 units.
The 2019 AMR is available to order now, and will begin rolling out in the second quarter of 2018. In the U.S., the AMR starts at $241,000.
