Following in the footsteps of its , the 2016 Infiniti Q50 headed to the U.S. next winter will debut a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Infiniti says it will release more details on our new at the North American International Auto Show in January. Hopefully, the model will receive more juice than the 211 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque available in China's Q50. As we've reported before, the engine is sourced from Mercedes-Benz, and will also appear in the Q30 and QX30.

Our Q50 is currently available with a standard 3.7-liter V-6 engine that produces 328 hp and achieves only 20/30 mpg city/highway. That's lower than other competitors in base form, including the Mercedes-Benz C300 that hits 25/34 mpg and the BMW 320i that tops out at 24/36 mpg when paired with an automatic transmission. The turbo-four-equipped Q50 should help bridge that fuel economy gap.

Along with Infiniti, Lexus is also jumping on the 2.0-liter turbo bandwagon with its new IS. The delivers 241 hp from its turbo-four paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to the updated Q50, a slew of other Infiniti cars receive minor updates for 2016. The Infiniti QX50 grows 3.2 inches in its wheelbase, promising additional cargo space and more rear passenger room. It also gains new exterior styling. Meanwhile, the Infiniti Q70 tacks on a new Premium Select Edition package with unique 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a rear decklid spoiler, and other design enhancements. The Infiniti QX80 adds a Signature Edition, which includes goodies like a saddle tan high-contrast interior, chrome mirror caps, and driver assistance package.
