Mercury Auto Nissan 350Z - Tokyo Auto Salon 2016

Twin turbocharged widebody Z

Jan 20, 2016

It's undeniable - Satou-San of Mercury Auto has an overwhelming love for Nissan, and after learning more about him, Toyota as well. He's owned every single athletic Nissan chassis you can think of: Zs, Silvias, and Skylines. We learned that he helped build Tetsuya Hibino's old D1 Grand Prix Toyota AE86 Corolla, and more recently his Supra.

During last year's Tokyo Auto Salon, the Tokyo-based tuner revealed the Mercury Auto GT3 Formula D car. This year, however, he wanted to build something that was solely for the streets. Unlike the 2JZ track car, the street GT3 retains the VQ motor but gets a boost of power with the help of a Trust twin-turbo system. It hasn't been fully tuned just yet, so power still remains a mystery. Instead of a flashy livery, Satou decided to leave the car with a Nissan yellow.

Now we can all play the waiting game and wait for Satou to fine tune the GT3 Z, and hopefully we'll get to see it mob the streets or drift on the touge. And if you're wondering when you can get your hands on the GT3 body kit, it won't be available for another couple of months.
