Season 15 is underway for the Formula DRIFT Professional Championship, with the series seeming to pick up exactly where it left off last year. At the season ender for 2017 at Irwindale Speedway, both Worthouse Drift drivers found themselves on the podium, with newly minted champ James Deane in third place and his teammate Piotr Wiecek on the top step; six months on and with the Round 1 qualifier in the books, Wiecek is P1, Deane P2. A returning Forrest Wang was resurgent, nabbing a 93 right out of the gate in his Vapetasia S15, good for third in qualifying. We hope to publish a complete order and tandem matchups soon.
Within our day one gallery you’ll find several new cars to FD, including Federico Sceriffo’s Ferrari 599 GTB, Dirk Stratton’s and Matt Field’s Chevy C6 Corvettes, Fredric Aasbo’s Toyota Corolla, Jeff Jones’ Nissan 370Z, Matt Vankirk’s S13 240SX, Kevin Lawrence’s R32 Skyline, and Austin Meeks’ S14 240SX, in addition to new looks for just about everyone else. Meeks’ Galp-sponsored Nissan took a licking Friday – yet another victim to Long Beach’s ravine of unforgiving walls – as did Cameron Moore’s 86 (of which we have a sequence below). Both drivers emerged unharmed and would return to competition, albeit in slightly banged-up cars.
Also within the album, three wheeling – it’s not just an RTR Motorsports Mustang thing anymore. We captured both Faruk Kugay’s BMW E92, as well as Kristaps Bluss’s Eurofighter, raising a front corner just like the pony cars.
