Short documentary looks at Team Honda Research West's 2 FK8 Civic Type R-effort in the classic Northern California enduro

We know the FK8 Civic Type R is fast—the turbo hot hatch has set lap records at iconic circuits like the Nurburgring, Silverstone, Magny-Cours, and others—and now we know it can last, too. In December 2018, the folks at Team Honda Research West—a group of employee road racers based out of the automaker's R&D campus in Torrance, Calif.—set out to survive one of the longest endurance races on the planet, the 25 Hours of Thunderhill in Northern California. The volunteer engineers, designers, planners, and executives prepped the pair of racers—entirely after work hours, we might add—for the EO class, and our friends at Clockwork Media boiled down the experience into a concise, sub-6-minute, warm and fuzzy documentary called "Team Honda Research West—25 Hours of Thunderhill Recap," available to view right now on YouTube.

Endurance racing is no joke, a sport as much about strategy, teamwork, and organization as it is about speed. At one point during the long night, the number 18 THR-W Civic Type R started having gearbox problems—ultimately completely losing the use of fourth gear—and so the call was made to bring the car in and swap out transmissions. The drama typifies the challenges of this kind of motorsports competition, but also continues to build on the legend of the still-new performance Civic platform.

In only their second year of development, the Team Honda Research West Civic Type-Rs finished the enduro fourth and seventh in the highly competitive class. "Team Honda Research West—25 Hours of Thunderhill Recap" displays the grit and teamwork it took to bring those cars home.
