What do you get when you take a bunch of highly modified but not built for the track tuner cars; their owners—who vary in circuit experience from lots of seat time to zero seat time; put them on a famously technical ribbon of tarmac in Southern California to compete for fastest lap; AND toss in a couple of hot shoes who race for a living in IMSA and World Challenge? Well, if you're pbskids, you get the Show Car Shootout presented by Continental Tire, our annual track day challenge to see which normally static trailer queen has what it takes to best a field of similarly primped hard parkers. All vehicles relied on Continental Tire's ExtremeContact Sport, a tire that was used in 2016 and received excellent reviews from competitors.
The coaching aspect of the comp was a big element to this year's event, as the video illustrates, considering a few of the owner-drivers had never tracked their cars, much less been to the 1.8-mile, 15-turn road course at Streets of Willow Springs. How did the chips fall on this mixed bag cars and drivers? You'll have to watch the video to find out! For lap times and a little more on the cars, check out our results post from a few weeks back, and we've got still more coverage on the way from the 2017 Show Car Shootout presented by Continental Tire.
