CSF Radiators Booth at SEMA '18 #MTSEMA18

Where "subtlety" meets all out performance

Nov 1, 2018

During last year's SEMA show, we ran across the CSF Radiators booth during set up day and couldn't help but be drawn in by the Sheepey Race Lamborghini Huracan, as well as CSF's director Ravi Dolwani's Evo X. We liked it so much we immediately did a write up on the car before the show opened, and more recently it appeared on the cover of pbskids. The year prior to that, Ravi and CSF displayed Rywire's incredible Integra build, another car featured in the pages of SS.

For 2018, CSF brought to SEMA a pair of cars that really couldn't be any more different, but that both draw their own sort of crowd for different reasons. The choice proved to be a solid one, as the booth remained incredibly busy from open to close.

A true "garage built" garage build...

Honest Assembly () has a line in their Instagram bio that states "amateur automotive enthusiasts building a 2018 SEMA car." I'm not sure who they're trying to fool, but this build is anything but amateur. It's the kind of build that will sneak right by some, while it'll keep others hyper-focused on the engine bay and inconspicuous detail far longer than they'd ever planned.

The E30 M3 was stripped all the way down to bare bones in the group's one-and-a-half-car garage, before being prepped and painted to look better than new. Livery was applied and lies in stark contrast to the Forgeline center lock mesh wheel faces that were covered in dark grey. The look and feel is DTM but it gets so much better the closer you get.

Head to the rear of the car and the dual exhaust tips protruding from the rear are but a sample of the OCD-levels of cleanliness under the chassis. That exhaust, comprised of V-bands and a circular to oval piping transition is surrounding by fresh paint and restoration. Running parallel to the muffler are Motion Control suspension reservoirs that offer easy access to make adjustment. Higher up, the adjustable Gurney flap ties it all together.

Under the hood is where things get even more interesting. No hood exit exhaust or impossibly too big turbo, but rather a complete S55 engine swap that makes you forget about every hack job swap you've ever encountered. As if it was meant to be from the very beginning, the F80 heart is nestled perfectly inside a bay that's been treated to subtle, functional touches to make it all just feel "right."

Of course, cooling duties were handled by CSF, who seem to have found yet another build with enough wow factor to continued their streak of SEMA eye-catchers.

More than you can afford, pal, Sheepey Race.

Alex Soto and the crew from Sheepey Race have been busy since their Lamborghini appeared in the CSF booth last year. And when I say they've been busy, I'm referring to the parts they've been fabricating, testing, and pumping out for Soto's Ferrari 458.

The main instigators are a pair of Precision 6062 second generation turbos backed by Turbosmart gate control and CSF's cooling goods. Sending gases to the atmosphere is Sheepey Race's merged race exhaust system with race cats, and if you stop by on Instagram, you can hear just how good it sounds.

The interior remains stock, as it should on a car like this, while the outside, massive, custom Rotiform wheels fill in any tiny gaps. As wild as the car seems after having been fitted with a major performance setup, the black coated bits and pieces under the hood, as well as the aero pieces, added to the exterior tone the overall look down quite a bit so you're left with a subtle (okay, as subtle as a 458 in fire engine red can be), modded look with a monster lurking behind the cockpit.
